Transformer Windings

In distribution and power transformers, windings consist of conductive and insulating materials. The winding design and manufacturing process aim to provide high mechanical strength against the axial and radial forces that may occur under the transformer's operating conditions and resistance to overvoltage surges.

At Deltasan, copper or aluminum conductors are used in transformer windings, depending on the application and technical requirements. Conductor selection is determined by taking into account the current and voltage values, the transformer design, the technical requirements of the area of use, and customer specifications.

Low- and High-Voltage Windings

Low-voltage (LV) windings are generally manufactured from foil or paper-insulated flat conductors. The design is carried out to provide high current-carrying capacity and the required mechanical strength.

High-voltage (HV) windings may be manufactured from enamel-insulated round wire conductors or paper-insulated round and flat conductors, depending on the characteristics of the transformer.

Insulation System

Special insulating materials with high dielectric strength and oil absorption capacity are used between the winding layers. Materials such as Kraft paper, shellac paper (DDP, DPP), and pressboard contribute to improving the electrical and mechanical properties of the windings.

All insulation components used in the windings are selected to maintain electrical and mechanical stability across the temperature range encountered under the transformer's operating conditions. Controlled insulation applications aim to reduce voids in the winding structure and create a homogeneous insulation system.
